We can build a new book bus

One of my favorite childhood memories is of sitting in a bubble window reading a book at my local library. I can't imagine what I would have felt if I had no access to books in my youth. I was fortunate and lived in walking distance to the library and also had family to encourage my love of reading. Bess the Book Bus dreams of bridging the gaps in accessibility for young readers in today's difficult times. The Bus strives to encourage reading in all children whether their "local" library is as easily reached or not. Building a personal library in children's homes one Bess the Book Bus visit at a time, The Bus brings books to the children and opens all of the worlds within.

As an adult I have explored more of the world because of my involvement with Bess. I have traveled as a volunteer and watched as joy spread across the faces of so many children as they found their new books. I listened to awed voices as they verified that they could keep the book or that the book was really free. I have seen some actually jump for joy. I hope that this outreach can continue for many years to come. In order to accomplish that, a new bus is needed to make Nationwide trips possible. In our challenging times with the need for social distancing a new distribution system that includes rolling carts that can be safely spaced is needed. Help us Build That Bus!
